I am pleased to share that as part of Brown’s broader effort to support the greater community’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, a number of our currently unoccupied residence halls will soon provide short-term housing for front-line personnel who need to isolate from their families while they work to support others through the pandemic.

As part of a new partnership with the State of Rhode Island, local health care providers, members of the National Guard, and other city and state emergency personnel and first responders will take occupancy in temporary housing assignments in the Pembroke Campus residence halls beginning as soon as this afternoon. Officials from the Rhode Island National Guard will oversee and provide all support required for managing these housing arrangements. Use of the residence halls will adhere to all social distancing and other health guidelines, and no individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 will be housed as part of this agreement.

Individual students, faculty and staff across the University have stepped up to assist with the local community’s effort to address COVID-19 through a growing array of initiatives. We’re pleased to add the use of campus residence halls to the many ways in which we’re collectively supporting Providence and Rhode Island in this ongoing public health crisis.

Sincerely,

Russell Carey
Executive Vice President for Planning and Policy
