Coronavirus isn't a competition between countries, but it's important nonetheless for those of us in the U.S. to acknowledge that maybe America isn't ""the greatest nation on Earth"" Trump keeps pretending it is, and maybe learn from what other countries have done really well.

Korea discovered its first coronavirus case on the SAME day we did, took the necessary measures immediately and have had about 9,700 cases and 162 deaths, whilst here we're already upwards of 190,000 cases and 4000 deaths, and our president is looking at 100,000 deaths and saying ""I see this as an absolute win!"" Even if you look at it by population, we have about 3 times the number of cases per capita that they do.

And before some of us talk about how China's obfuscating everything, maybe consider that new cases there are mostly asymptomatic patients, which means that they're actually testing people as a precautionary measure, making their numbers far more accurate than what we're doing here, which is providing testing to ONLY SOME of the people who have very obvious symptoms. At 17 deaths, the Chinese government instituted a complete lockdown of the Hubei region with 60 million people, implemented mandatory temperature checks at every restaurant, mall, and office building nationwide, and built 2 hospitals within 10 days, while the admin here referred to the virus as a hoax for weeks until people started dying rapidly.

Singapore also reacted very quickly to the unfolding situation and undertook extensive efforts to track and interview all infected persons and enforced an early national lockdown. They have about just 7 percent deaths-per-million that we do.

No nation is perfect, but our response was and continues to be pretty uniquely horrible. Shitting on other nations when their responses have been leagues ahead of the incompetence of our own government does nothing but hurt us more."
