It just pained me to read about all the UP debates going on over the past few days. It seems that this is dividing the campus up in a way that is in no doubt against the initial aims of this debate (both sides included) — it is getting people to accuse each other of all different kinds of things when most of both sides share the same hope for education equality and inclusivity. I don’t think this result is what anyone in this debate wanted at this time when coronavirus is still out there with numerous people suffering. In this difficult time, as brown students, we need to have at least some sense of solidarity and to recognize all of our fortunes and privileges. Rather than splitting the campus further with all the name-calling and finger-pointing, what we need more right now is to have truly productive discussions. We need to engage each other on both sides and the administration to figure out the best possible way to help all those of us who are going through these difficulties in the most inclusive way possible and take into consideration ALL of the different needs. And even more so, we need to recognize that there are so many more people in the community who are also suffering at unimaginable levels, numerous hospitals running out of resources, and the many many more people throughout the world right now in other nations who are suffering just as much.

Think that while all these heartbreaking things are happening, all of us are only continuing to engage in these meaningless finger-pointings that will never get us anywhere except destroying the last shreds of the sense of community at Brown that is already slowly dissolving with all of us scattered. If there is ever a time that we need to come together as a student body, whether it is for us, the community, or the world, the time is now. "
