I was abused by my mother growing up. I had a brain injury that forced me to take a year away from Brown and has caused me to struggle ever since (causing my grades to suffer). I'd love to improve my grades this semester but I understand that my past doesn't detract from the present. I wish I had been able to automatically pass all of my classes during that tough period of time, but at least I was at Brown, was surrounded by my friends, wasn't being abused, and was able to make avail of all of Brown's on-campus resources. Students that are the most negatively affected by this crisis don't have access to these things. Many aren't able to even fathom the idea of studying for exams, completing extensive projects, etc. UP seems like the most equitable solution to solve these problems. Despite the fact that I had extenuating circumstances that weren't adequately addressed in past semesters, I still want the best for those that are struggling this semester."
