Dear continuing F-1 students,
OISSS was pleased to learn that the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) rescinded its Fall 2020 Guidance yesterday and reverted to previous guidance issued for Spring 2020.
In light of numerous email inquiries that we received since yesterday’s settlement, OISSS would like to address a couple of the most common questions asked:
Taking online classes: Continuing students will now be able to enroll in hybrid or online classes from either outside the U.S. or from within the U.S. and maintain an active SEVIS record. This means that if you would like to study in the U.S. this fall, you are not required to enroll in any hybrid or in-person classes to maintain your F-1 status.
Reissuing I-20s: Due to the settlement we will no longer be issuing new Forms I-20 with a remark indicating that Brown will be operating under a hybrid model for Fall 2020. Thank you to the many students who were quick to inform us of their plans!
Travel Signatures: If you need a new Form I-20 with a more current travel signature, please complete the request form here: www.brown.edu/go/reprint. OISSS will mail new Forms I-20 by standard mail or through shipping labels purchased by the student. Travel signatures on page 2 of the I-20 are valid for 1 year from the time of issuance (or 6 months when on post-completion OPT).
