Dear ,

We hope this message finds you healthy and safe.

We write with a brief update about the housing assignment process for the fall. Our records indicate that you participated in Phase One of the Housing Lottery process for Fall 2020 a few months ago.

As you read in the communication from Vice President Estes and Dean Zia earlier today, to de-densify student residences and provide a single-occupancy room to every student on campus this fall in light of the current pandemic, most previous housing assignments will need to change. Given the constraints we face, we are also unable to maintain lottery groups as they currently stand. While there will not be a traditional housing lottery process for the fall, you will still have the opportunity to list a limited number of preferences to inform our housing assignment process.

If you have not already done so, please begin this process by completing the Fall 2020 Location of Study Form by 11 :59 pm EDT on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. If you indicate via that form that you intend to live on campus in the fall, you will receive a link to the Housing Questionnaire where you can indicate housing preferences and preference of move-in days in the range of Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. If you submitted the Location of Study Form prior to receipt of this message, be assured that you can change your answers in that form until the deadline has passed.

You will receive your fall housing assignment no later than August 10.

As President Paxson noted in her announcement about Brown 's operations for 2020-21, our plans are based on the best data and public health recommendations currently available, but we may need to make adjustments if the situation changes. We anticipate that you likely have many questions about your return to campus. In the coming weeks, the best and most up-to-date information will be available on the Undergraduate FAQ page, the Healthy Brown website, and the Office of Residential Life website.

If you have questions not answered on these websites, you may contact the Office of Residential Life via phone (401-863-3500) or email (Res_Life@brown.edu).

Finally, it’s important to note that safeguarding the health of the community will be the shared responsibility of everyone on the Brown campus during 2020-21. We sincerely appreciate the essential role that you’ll play in maintaining health and safety for our community, which is the University’s most important priority, and the flexibility that may be required should the pandemic prompt any adjustments to our plans for the academic year.

Sincerely,

Office of Residential Life
