2035* - CLPS 100 FOLLOW UP. The following email was sent on Tues Mar 31 at 11:28, forwarding a copy of the previous email (sent to Dean Zia at 8:39 the previous day) to President Paxson, with the following additions:

SUBJECT: Time-Sensitive: CLPS 100 Grading and Policy Changes
Dear Dean Zia and President Paxson,

I understand that things have been extremely hectic on your ends, but I am writing again to ensure that my email (sent yesterday) was received since exam submissions open tomorrow. I just wanted to emphasize that:

1. CLPS 100 is a class with over 100 people, which means that over 100 students will be negatively impacted by the policy changes implemented.
2. Many people in the class are extremely stressed about the exam. I even received an email from one of my friends, informing me that he had dropped the class because he felt unable to keep up.

On a public (anonymous) forum, some have commented the following:

"Following up to post 1962 about CLPS 0100... I am incredibly upset by her decision to change the course's structure so unexpectedly. I think it's ridiculous that we have such little time to prepare AND that the exams are timed (especially the second option that [which] includes several short answers and a full essay in just 50 minutes). It's also ridiculous that she chose to make it closed book and limit it to 50 min so that we have less time to "look up answers." All exams should be open book!!!!..."

"to the CLPS 0100 students sending an email to the college PLEASE make sure they see the email before our exam! Resend it if need be because this is all so ridiculous"

On the same platform, at least 20 people have seconded the email which was sent yesterday- which represents almost 20% of the class (and this is not accounting for those who are off social media/ do not visit said platform).

3. I also wanted to add that the exam time-limit is designed to prevent students from looking up answers. However, in doing so, it also adds unnecessary pressure and time constraints. Furthermore, the exam format prevents students from changing answers once they have proceeded to the next question - to students who need time to process questions, this could be especially discouraging. Many also feel the workload for the class has substantially increased, rather than remaining the same (or even decreasing, to accommodate the extenuating circumstances many currently face.)

Another peer I spoke with after attempting the practice quiz, which was meant to represent a short version of the actual exam, expressed additional concerns:

"Overall, I found this experience very overwhelming and stress-inducing. I felt I focused more on timing than content that was meant to evaluate my knowledge, resulting in my knowledge not being reflected accurately as I was very frazzled when answering."

As a result, I am writing once again to ask for your support in this matter. I recognize that at this time, you might be swamped with various emails, and are dealing with other extremely troubling issues. However, since the class is a large one, and I've seen firsthand the stress it is causing my peers in an already-incredibly-stressful time, I believe it was worth sending a follow-up.

Thank you for your patience. Eagerly awaiting your response,
__ & __
On behalf of CLPS 100 students

SIDE NOTE: In case any of you are still very stressed, and we don't receive a response in time, I'd be happy to talk to you/ even just revise with you if you need a study buddy since I'm pretty comfortable with the material. A lot of us have bigger fish to fry right now than an exam, so let's do our best to get through this hurdle together!
