Dear Undergraduate Students,

I hope that you are doing well and that you are taking the time to prioritize your health
and well-being. As the weekend approaches, I am writing today to share some guidance from the College, as well as resources you may find helpful as you prepare for remote instruction after the end of spring break:

1. Consider what you will need to resume your courses remotely:
a. Take a look at the Remote Learning page on Brown’s COVID-19
website to see a checklist for preparedness and other valuable
resources.
b. The University has established a dedicated COVID-19 Transition E-Gap Fund for undergraduates with high demonstrated financial need to assist with emergent expenses related to the transition to remote learning. Depending on a student’s individual circumstances and financial need,
E-Gap funding may provide partial support for travel, moving and storage, and education-related expenses. Students may apply directly at ufunds.brown.edu.

2. Advising Support: Per the Provost’s message, classes will resume remotely
on Monday, 3/30, and there should be no assignments due before classes resume. If you have any academic questions or concerns, please note that Academic Deans are holding virtual appointments through the end of the semester. You can also email college@brown.edu or call 401-863-9800 to ask questions or request an appointment with an Academic Dean outside of the
pre-scheduled appointment blocks.

3. Changes to Academic Deadlines and Policies: Many of you have reached
out to the College to ask questions and share perspectives around potential
changes to our standard academic calendar and policies, such as postponing concentration declaration & Fall pre-registration and re-opening the S/NC
grade option. Please know that we are keeping your needs and perspectives in
mind as we work through these issues; our goal is to provide a comprehensive update on all policy issues to the campus community before classes resume
on March 30th.

Please keep an eye out for additional messages and continue to consult Brown’s COVID-19 website for regular updates. I know this is not the spring break that any of us had planned for, but I know that our community will continue to build and strengthen relationships from afar over the weeks to come.

Sincerely,

Rashid Zia
Dean of the College
