Later this morning, Brown President Christina H. Paxson will testify before the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on how colleges and universities can safely prepare to reopen campuses this fall. President Paxson will be joined by Mitch Daniels (president, Purdue University), Logan Hampton (president, Lane College) and Georges Benjamin (executive director, American Public Health Association).

The hearing is an opportunity for senators to hear from college and university presidents about their work to return students to school in the fall as safely as possible. Topics will include strategies for COVID-19 diagnostic and serology testing, plans to isolate students discovered to have the virus or have been exposed to it, implementation of social distancing guidelines, and coordination and discussion with state and local public health officials.

The hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. this morning and will be live-streamed on the committee’s website:

Among the members of the HELP Committee is U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a Brown Class of 1980 graduate. In addition, nine Brown alumni serve currently as legislative aides for committee members.
