In response to the unique challenges and needs of the current moment, deans in the College and Student Support Services strongly encourage instructors to apply flexibility in the absence of a formal dean’s note when presented with student requests related to the many and varied impacts of COVID-19 (including differing levels of access to remote learning). Deans in both offices are happy to discuss particular concerns and options for supportive measures, with the collective goal of supporting student learning in the course.

Outside of COVID-related requests, while faculty continue to have jurisdiction over academic practices within their courses with or without dean’s notes, College and Student Support deans will continue to provide them upon request for health and personal circumstances that fall under our usual guidelines (click "Learn More" for additional information).
