This notice serves as the biannual reminder about grades of incomplete for all students in the College. The Registrar shares this information with students every year at this time. However, mindful of the adjustments in learning that students are experiencing amid the current pandemic, we want to note that the College continues to work to ensure that students receive appropriate support for completing their coursework.
Students who wish to request an extension of time to complete the work of any course for which they are enrolled during the current semester are urged to consult with their instructor by May 5, 2020.
The Faculty Rule concerning grades of incomplete reads as follows:
In exceptional circumstances, a course may be left incomplete (except for a regularly scheduled final examination - see Notice below), with the instructor's consent. In such cases, a grade of INC will be assigned by the instructor in Banner, provided that the instructor has consented to such a request. Unless an earlier date is specified by the instructor, grades of INC for Semester II should be made up by the first day of classes of Semester I (Sept. 9, 2020). Extensions beyond these dates for any period of time up to but no more than one year from the end of the semester in which the course left incomplete was taken may be set by the instructor in Banner when submitting the INC grade.
A course not completed by the designated time will be assigned a grade of NC unless the instructor indicates that sufficient work has been completed to justify course credit by submitting, as appropriate, a grade change from INC to A, B, C, or S. A grade of NC assigned in accordance with these procedures may be changed subsequently, but no later than ONE calendar year after the end of the semester in which the course was taken.
PROCEDURES FOR ABSENCE FROM FINAL EXAM:
In the case of unavoidable absence from the regularly scheduled final examination, students should contact the College for permission to take a make-up examination at a later date. Failure to obtain permission from the dean will result in a grade of NC for the course.
