I think the UP and the non-UP sides have their own reasons. Is it possible to do a middle-ground solution and allow students to do 2 options between S/NC with the guaranteed pass and those that chose letter grade? I know some people might say that people who chose letter grades might have an advantage but honestly, people have their own struggle at different times. The one who is willing to take things for grades would probably need them anyway otherwise they won't risk it at a stressful time like this. I think it is stressful for both sides but sometimes I just think everyone got their own problem all the time and should be given a choice to take a risk or receive passes in all classes as a support from the university. I know it is a global pandemic but some people REALLY need their grades if they are applying to jobs/grad schools outside of the US where they might not be as understanding. "
