i think a lot of anti-UP/alternative solutions people are offering forget about seniors who need course credits to graduate. im one of those seniors. if i fail any one of my classes this semester (which is really possible given my current circumstances), i won’t graduate. and enrolling in another semester would be an extreme financial burden, derail my post-grad plans, and be a huge pain in the ass
obviously this is not the main reason to support UP. im lucky compared to many of my peers, and supporting UP means supporting ufli students, students of color, and other students for whom this university was not built for (while also recognizing these students aren’t a monolith). this is an equity issue, and its so disheartening to see people more concerned about their own GPAs than other people’s humanities"
