.Brown UCS has just endorsed UPass for Brown, and I think everyone else should as well. UPass eases the overload of stresses that we are all experiencing during this time, while still allowing students to obtain A equivalent grades through Brown's Pass with Distinction policy if they want to increase their GPA (i.e., if you get an A in a course under the UPass system, you will pass the class with distinction, which will be factored into your GPA as a 4.0).

Everyone should read the full email sent from Brown UCS as it goes into detail on the policy, but I have pasted some key characteristics below. Please see below and sign the petition (and encourage your parents and loved ones around you to sign it) if you support it.

[Taken from the email from UCS@Brown.edu ""In Support of Universal Pass""]:

""UPass is the most equitable grading policy as it achieves 3 main goals:
1. UPass ensures that all students pass their classes with no possibility of a NC

2. UPass does not discriminate against students acutely affected by COVID-19 who are more likely to choose S/NC over letter grades

3. UPass prioritizes faculty wellbeing by accommodating for personal impacts and difficulties related to remote learning during the pandemic

...
Following Brown’s S with distinction policy, a Pass (P) with distinction would be awarded to students whose course performance is equivalent to an A

For students who have had extenuating circumstances in previous semesters and were relying on grades this semester to reflect growth in academic performance, we hope this “P with distinction” will help capture their hard work""
